Gem Craft Chemical’s decision to become AS9120:B and ISO 9001:2015 certified is a proactive one that not only anticipates the demands of our customers, but also demonstrates a commitment to providing quality products and services to all our customers. We will always strive to exceed your expectations. With our goals focused on the emphasis of quality assurance and innovative products.
To become AS9120:B and ISO 9001:2015 certified, Gem Craft underwent an evaluation process that included quality management system development, a management system documentation review, pre-audit, initial assessment, and clearance of non-conformances, all of which work to identify corrective actions that eliminate non-conformance to the aerospace and quality management standards. To certify an organization according to these most recent aerospace and quality management system standards, one needs to demonstrate clearly that processes in the organization are being improved continuously, that potential risks are being countered and that communication with the stakeholders gets more emphasis. This certification confirms we not only value superior quality, service, innovation, flexibility and reliability by words but also by actions! We are excited to announce that Enviro Tech International, the manufacturer of Boeing approved EnSolv 5408 nPB, has now received a Boeing approval on their EnSolv NEXT 3000!!! This non-flammable, high-trans fluorinated solvent blend represents the next generation of vapor degreasers. Ozone-friendly and with very low global warming potential, NEXT 3000 also boasts exceptionally low human toxicity compared to the vast majority of aerospace solvents on the market today.
NEXT 3000 is formulated to meet a wide range of precision aerospace cleaning needs. NEXT 3000 is perfectly suited as an aviation degreaser for vapor degreasing in existing equipment, cold wiping applications, oxygen cleaning and many other functions. This is an excellent alternative for aerospace companies looking to replace chemistries such as TCE or nPB, and gives Ontario companies a new option in meeting the Ontario Ministry of Labour’s restrictions on nPB. Please call Gem Craft for more information or to receive a sample of this product. The Ontario Ministry of Labour has recently approved changes to the Occupational Exposure Limits of 21 chemicals that took effect in January 2018. Gemcraft can help you with your equipment changeover to ensure minimal losses.
With these amendments, the new “30-year time-weighted average exposure” for n-propyl bromide (also called nPB or 1-bromopropane and identified by CAS #106-94-5) is adjusted downward from 10 parts per million to 0.1 parts per million. This will impact any nPB solvent you currently use. Under most manufacturing conditions this will not be an attainable goal, and will require a change in solvent. For your information we have attached a link to the recent Ontario Ministry of Labour Notice and chemical chart below. https://www.labour.gov.on.ca/english/resources/notices.php#august012017 https://www.labour.gov.on.ca/english/about/consultations/oels/table.php As Gem Craft Chemical has been anticipating this change since recommendations were made by the ACGIH in its annual review for 2014 and 2015, we have been able to put in place a number of replacement solvents with the manufacturers you have come to trust. Companies like EnviroTech International, MicroCare Corporation and Chemours (DuPont). These products include the now Boeing 5408 approved Chemours Vertrel SDG Select. Gem Craft Chemical is a full service provider and can assist you with choosing the best chemistry for your needs as well as assisting with your equipment needs and modifications to ensure the least amount of solvent losses during your transition to a replacement product. Please contact us for assistance in meeting this new exposure limit. Gem Craft Chemical Limited is pleased to announce that we have been selected as the exclusive
Canadian distributor of Honeywell’s new high-performance, low-global-warming-potential solvent that offers excellent cleaning power for metal and plastic parts. The new solvent, Solstice® Performance Fluid (PF), effectively cleans oils, greases and other substances commonly encountered in many cleaning applications, ranging from electronics manufacturing to military and aerospace equipment repair. Solstice PF has a global warming potential (GWP) of 1, which is more than 99 percent lower than the GWPs of today’s most commonly used solvents. The new material provides solvent users with a cost-effective, energy-efficient and environmentally-preferable alternative to high-GWP solvents. The widespread adoption of Solstice PF could save about 18 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year, which is comparable to eliminating carbon dioxide emissions from more than 3 million cars every year.* “Solstice Performance Fluid meets all of the needs of today’s solvent users, blending superior cleaning power with an excellent health, safety and environmental profile,” said David Cooper, global business director for Honeywell Fluorine Products. “Solvent users no longer have to sacrifice performance to achieve environmental benefits.” Solstice PF is suitable for use in vapor degreasing equipment and line flushing, and can be dispensed from an aerosol can. It is available in two alcohol blends for electronics applications, with one of the blends specifically designed to meet California environmental regulations. Solstice PF is an environmentally-preferable alternative to high-GWP HFC and HFE solvents used today, including HFC-4310mee and HFE-7100. It is also a suitable replacement for HCFC-225ca, which will be prohibited in the U.S. for most uses beginning January 1, 2015. Solstice PF is nonflammable, per ASTM E681 testing, and is not a volatile organic compound (VOC) as determined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Solstice PF also has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) of 800 parts per million (ppm), compared with 10 ppm for n-propyl bromide (nPB). Solstice PF is the latest addition to Honeywell’s family of Solstice-branded products, which includes stationary and mobile refrigerants, liquid and gaseous blowing agents, and propellants. The Solstice product line is based on Honeywell’s new hydrofluoro-olefin technology, which is designed to help customers lower their carbon footprint without sacrificing end-product performance. Despite not selling any AK225 (HCFC225) in Canada since the end of Dec 2008, many companies
continue to contact us regarding the official phase out status of this outstanding product and if any viable alternatives are available that match its performance. In general, effective Jan 1st, 2015, news if a usage ban will be in place in the United States. Gem Craft Chemical has crossed over a fair number of applications to other product lines that do not have any such restrictions, but there are still some applications that can only use AK225 and until recently with the introduction of newer chemistry technologies from DuPont and Honeywell, we have not been able to transition these applications. Gem Craft Chemical will be contacting old AK225 and other prospective users in the very near future to discuss these newer chemistries but if you have any questions in the interim, please do not hesitate to contact your Gem Craft Chemical representative for additional information. Gem Craft Chemical Limited is pleased to announce that we now have access to a new fluorinated
chemistry developed by DuPont for the Canadian marketplace under its brand name DuPontTM Vertrel®,a new range of fluids allows users with special applications, including precision cleaning, heat transfer (cooling) and carrier fluid (lubricants, oils, greases, etc.) to exceed stringent environmental standards, while maintaining high levels of performance. DuPont has started the introduction of these next-generation fluids as cost-effective replacements for PFCs and PFPEs, HFCs and HFEs. Vertrel® SionTM azeotrope is a binary azeotropic mixture based on this new fluorinated chemistry. It offers a higher solvency precision cleaning agent developed in response to worldwide market demand for safe, non-flammable and low environmental impact products for high-end industrial cleaning applications such as vapour phase degreasing, manual cleaning and open top, closed or hermetic equipment. The solvent is based on new extremely low (<1) Global Warming Potential (GWP), HFO-fluorinated chemistry. As well as providing powerful cleaning performance (Kb > 100) with reduced cycle times, Vertrel® SionTM also has a very favorable toxicity profile, is recyclable and reusable, non-flammable and has a low boiling point (47 deg C), making it fast drying and immediately ready for handling and use. This new chemistry can successfully replace many high cost HFE materials, as well as HCFC225, nPB, HFC-365 blends and other hazardous chlorinated solvents in existing equipment. It can also be used as a safe, viable alternative to fast evaporating, flammable materials typically used in cold cleaning applications such as IPA, acetone, thinners and MEK. Furthermore, Vertrel® SionTM is cost effective and is the lowest cost fluorinated solvent available on the market today. This product is fully compliant to Canadian regulations and is ready and available for sale in Canada. Just a reminder that effective February 1st, 2010, the Ministry of the Environment of Ontario (MOE) will
be implementing a significant reduction in the amount of TCE emissions that users will be allowed to emit from their stacks. The reduction is very significant and will make it difficult for most users to comply with these requirements, depending on their specific Point of Impingement (POI) readings that are determined by appropriate ESDM (Emissions Summary Dispersion Model) calculations approved by the MOE. In general, new schedule 2 requirements state that TCE emissions based on a 1⁄2 hour Averaging Time will be reduced from 3,500 μg/m3 ( micro grams per meter cubed) to only 36 μg/m3. Schedule 3 will also apply to TCE with a 24 hour standard of only 12 μg/m3. Gem Craft Chemical Limited can capably assist TCE users to determine if their POI numbers will be in compliance to MOE standards. If we determine that users cannot meet these requirements with their existing equipment, we can either:
